The "Grandes Écoles "of Wood
|
| |
Spurred on by the AIESB (association of engineers of the advanced school of wood), three Grandes Écoles of France training engineers for the wood industry are offering a training forum where they will present their Research centres.
Come and discover the technological and scientific research work currently under way in your industry.
Linda Dézalleux, Chief Representative of the AIESB, will be on hand throughout the exhibition to give you information and answer all your questions.
|
 |
The task of the AIESB involves
- promoting the engineering trades
- increasing the value of the Engineering diploma
- promoting exchanges and mutual help in exercising the profession

École Supérieure du bois (ESB Nantes)
The Groupe École Supérieure du Bois trains researchers, engineers, senior technicians and specialists in the recovery of wood materials. It offers doctorates, specialist masters degrees, engineering diplomas, technical diplomas and vocational training certificates. Young people trained there become involved in the major activity sectors of the wood industry, including supplies and first transformation, construction, production, commerce and research work.
The research work carried out by the ESB teams is designed to provide technological and scientific support to companies, and develop the use of wood and composite materials. The school is recognised internationally for its participation in international networks and its contribution to projects and conferences at world-class level.

École Nationale Supérieure des Technologies et Industries du Bois (ENSTIB Épinal)
Manufacturing and production research at the ENSTIB
The general aim is mastery of the material/procedure/process interaction in order to pinpoint the best manufacturing conditions for products made of or based on wood. The experimental approach used puts forward theoretical models and formalises often empirical rules for the use of cutting tools.
The three fields of work involve:
- an analysis of the cutting tool in contact with the material: an analysis of corrosion and abrasion phenomena in the cutting materials of tools during machining; the measurement of cutting forces and power with traditional procedures (crushing, shaping, planning, sawing with circular and band saws); the measurement of vibrations during cutting
- more in-depth knowledge of optimum machining conditions: the "Tool/Material Couple" methodology for the wood material used in order to determine the performances of the machining process depending on changes in the state of cutting tools: the law of the behaviour of cutting forces according to the mechanical characteristics of solid wood material
- understanding the machining/procedure-process interaction: search for the correct surface state judged in relation to the use (aesthetics, gluing, application of paint, etc.) taking account of the minimum wear and tear of tools; behaviour and size of particles emitted during cutting with solid woods and wood derivative panels
These experimental data, such as the properties of the material wood, the machining parameters or the morpho-dimensional characteristics of the tooling, are capitalised for use at the design phase of wood products.

École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM Cluny)
L'Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers is a "Grande École" for Engineers.
The school has trained more than 85,000 engineers since it was founded by the Duc de La Rochefoucauld Liancourt in 1780.
Our posters present the Wood industry and the continuous training provided by our centre. The wood activity is divided into three areas: research, training and technology transfer. Our laboratory works in close collaboration with companies and partners in the wood sector. Devoted to research, different subjects are taught and put into practice: tool surface treatment and the integrated peeling approach. Professional and research Masters 2 degrees are open to our student engineers. Teaching is focused on a sustainable management approach. When they leave the school, our students are operational for working in SMEs and large industrial groups. Our continuous training offer is also presented. A large number of professionals are concerned by the specialist masters degrees in 3D architecture and management in Central Europe.

Wood Fingerprint Sculpture
|
 |
La Griffe du Charpentier (The Carpenter's Sign)
An existential complicity has always existed between man and trees: in short, a natural contract. The Fingerprint is an original signature symbolizing the perfect agreement between two living entities: man and the tree. The "La Griffe du Charpentier" print represents the symbiosis that seals this agreement.
With poetry and philosophy, Simon Benzaquen stages his "metaphorical works", a colorful representation of man's questions on his own condition.

Wood-Mizer – BOOTH 6N040
|

|
After the wood-chopping contest in 2008, Wood-Mizer is this year organizing a tombola ad a carpenters' contest.
Numerous special prizes can be won, including log splitters, workshop vacuum cleaners, mini-sawmills and Wood-Mizer goodies.
- Tombola: A draw will take place every day at 4.30 pm.
- Carpenters' contest: Visitors are invited to demonstrate their rapidity and balance as they hammer nails into a beam (offer limited to one try per day per participant)
